Awards have been bestowed upon master chocolatier Marina Prijatelj and the innovative creation known as Teslade, which has received recognition in Opatija. This accolade marks a notable achievement for both the creator and the unique product, combining science, design, and gastronomy into a singular concept. The award, titled "Nikola Tesla, Genius for the Future," was granted in the category of creative and innovative projects during the Tesla & Friends event celebrating the 170th anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birth. The award ceremony took place in Opatija, a town renowned for its rich cultural heritage and artisanal craftsmanship. It was presented to Marina Prijatelj, the author of the Teslade project, with the support of her team, including Dr. Ljiljana Fruk and Boris Ljubičić, who contributed to the visual identity and packaging design. The Teslade collection consists of three handcrafted chocolates dedicated to Nikola Tesla, each representing one of his inventions, symbolized through distinct flavors and designs. Each chocolate features an engraved motif of one of Tesla’s patents, Electromotor, Tesla coil, or Tesla tower, and carries a flavor profile inspired by Tesla’s legacy. The collection is part of the Croatian Choco Concept, an original brand by Marina Prijatelj that interprets Croatian heritage, nature, science, and identity through exquisite chocolate-making. The chocolates are crafted manually in small batches using artisan techniques, ensuring meticulous attention to detail. The visual identity of the collection, designed by Boris Ljubičić, reflects Tesla’s contribution to the electrification of the world. The typography featuring the names "Tesla" and "Teslade" appears in varying intensities, creating a visual effect reminiscent of illuminated windows in a city at night, a symbolic nod to Tesla's gift of light to modern civilization. Upon opening the package, consumers are greeted with an additional surprise, an engraved image of one of Tesla’s patents along with his signature directly on the chocolate itself. Previously, the Teslades had already garnered international awards, including a bronze medal at the HiiiBrand Awards in China and a silver medal at the Graphis Awards in New York for their packaging and visual identity design. However, the annual "Nikola Tesla, Genius for the Future" award stands apart due to its focus on the completeness of the author's concept and its contribution to promoting Tesla's legacy in contemporary society. The initiative behind the Teslades continues through the joint project "Sweet Science," which blends education with sensory experiences. These chocolates are available for purchase in souvenir shops and specialized stores, and they are also used as representative business gifts by numerous Croatian institutions and companies. The collaboration between Marina Prijatelj and Dr. Ljiljana Fruk, a scientist and professor at the University of Cambridge, exemplifies the fusion of artistry and scientific communication. Boris Ljubičić, a key member of the team, contributes significantly to the aesthetic appeal of the products, ensuring that each element of the design aligns with the core values of innovation and creativity. The success of the Teslade project underscores the potential of interdisciplinary efforts in creating meaningful and impactful works that resonate beyond traditional boundaries.
