Meanwhile, a separate fire in Árchez, Málaga, has led to the confinement of the town of Cómpeta, which has a population of 4,000 residents. The wildfires have been exacerbated by high temperatures and strong wind gusts reaching up to 50 kilometers per hour, which have accelerated the spread of fires fueled by dry grass and crops. In Segovia, a fire declared late Monday in Brieva rapidly expanded, prompting emergency services to activate the second level of the fire severity index. This incident alone has resulted in hundreds of evacuations, with multiple towns in the area remaining under evacuation orders. Authorities have deployed extensive resources to combat the flames and protect civilian populations. In Soria province, air quality has deteriorated significantly due to smoke from the wildfires in Guadalajara. Local authorities have advised limiting outdoor activities to reduce exposure to harmful particulate matter. This pollution risk is compounded by potential dust intrusion from North Africa, further complicating the health concerns for residents in the region. The combination of heatwaves and wildfires has created a challenging environment for both firefighting teams and the communities affected by the blazes. The scale of destruction continues to grow, with preliminary estimates suggesting that at least 100,000 hectares have been scorched nationwide this year. The main fire in northern Guadalajara, originating in La Mierla last Thursday, has already consumed nearly 29,000 hectares and forced the evacuation of 40 villages. Additional threats have emerged in the Alto Tajo Natural Park, where a new fire has prompted the evacuation of Aragoncillo and the closure of the N-211 highway connecting the two locations. Firefighters have reinforced their response in Guadalajara, deploying additional personnel and equipment to manage the escalating crisis. Efforts to contain the fires have also extended into other regions, including Teruel, where the Ejulve fire has destroyed approximately 1,100 hectares and left the town of Molinos evacuated. Another active fire in the Pyrenean region of Aragon near Plan covers an estimated 80 to 100 hectares. These incidents highlight the widespread nature of the current wildfire season, which has placed immense pressure on emergency services and local governments across multiple provinces. Government officials have pledged support for recovery efforts following the La Mierla fire. Minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, confirmed that the central government will cover half the costs of restoring the affected areas in the Sierra Norte once the firefighting operations conclude. She emphasized that the recovery process is just as crucial as extinguishing the fires themselves.
