Over the next two days, the family visited the clinic again, with the doctor once more advising them to take the child home. On the night she died, the mother called emergency services, but instead of receiving an ambulance, she was met by a vehicle intended for transporting patients and without an emergency physician. The child was taken to a clinic associated with the Vienna Health Workers' Union, where she was not accepted as an urgent case. Her parents were forced to complete forms while she waited in a poor state for treatment. Shortly afterward, the child passed away. Post-mortem examination revealed she had suffered from severe pneumonia, which was triggered by the flu. The parents, through their lawyer, have filed a lawsuit against the pediatrician, the city of Vienna, and the Red Cross. They stated that financial compensation is not their primary concern, as they are well-off. Instead, they seek clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding their child’s death. “Our clients want the truth,” said the lawyer. All parties involved have denied responsibility for the child’s death. An attempt to reach a settlement early in the proceedings failed, prompting the court to schedule hearings with several witnesses. A judge has also been appointed to determine whether there were errors in the child’s care. The lawyer representing the parents described the sequence of decisions as “completely unacceptable.” He argued that the child’s death could have been prevented if she had received proper care in accordance with professional standards.
