In August 2022, more than 1,100 scientists from around the world signed a declaration titled No Exceptional Climate Conditions, led by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever. Similar discoveries have been made in Switzerland, particularly at the Schnidejoch pass, where everyday objects from thousands of years ago were uncovered. A notable example is the 5,300-year-old frozen mummy known as Ötzi, found in the Alps in 1991. Such findings suggest that past climates were significantly warmer than present-day conditions. The scientists also point to geological evidence indicating that glaciers once extended much farther than they do today. For instance, the Weisseespitze mountain in Austria shows signs of glacial formation 5,900 years ago, suggesting that the climate was considerably warmer before this period. Today, the mountain remains covered with thick layers of ice, yet melting glaciers continue to reveal ancient tree remnants that once grew far above the current forest line. Critics of the climate change narrative argue that the focus on global warming has overshadowed other environmental issues, such as the impact of pesticides on fertility and health. They suggest that the fear of climate change has been used to justify economic policies that prioritize profit over ecological balance. This perspective highlights a broader debate about how scientific information is interpreted and presented to the public. The controversy extends beyond scientific circles into policy and media.
