These included several Nepalese individuals such as Kili Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa, and Nawang Thindu Sherpa, as well as the Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi and the Chinese climber Wang Zhong. Nirmal Purja, known globally for his extraordinary achievements in mountaineering, had previously set a record by completing the ascent of the 14 highest peaks over 8,000 meters within 190 days in 2019. This feat surpassed the previous world record held by South Korean climber Kim Chang-ho. His journey was documented in the Netflix production The 14 Eight-Thousanders: Nothing Is Impossible, which focused on the so-called “Project Possible.” In 2023, Norwegian climber Kristin Harila broke Purja’s record by achieving the same goal in just 93 days. Purja's death marks a profound loss for the climbing community. He was celebrated not only for his physical prowess but also for his determination and spirit.
