Tottenham pobjegao s dna ljestvice: Maddison zabio golčinu, a Šveđanin se vratio nakon 526 dana

Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Coventry City in the final match of the seventh round on October 19, 2026. The result lifted the hosts off the bottom of the table, ending a winless streak that had lasted since the final game of the previous campaign. Goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush, and Ben Davies gave Tottenham the victory, while Jack Rudoni briefly leveled the score for Coventry in the second half. The match took place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the home side taking the lead in the 14th minute through Maddison. The England international scored a stunning first-time strike from outside the penalty area after receiving a pass from Mohammed Kudus on the right flank. His goal marked his first appearance in a starting lineup in 536 days, following two serious knee injuries that kept him sidelined since May 2025. Coventry responded quickly in the 49th minute when Rudoni equalized, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box. However, Tottenham regained control shortly afterward. In the 58th minute, Marmoush found space after being elbowed by a defender and fired a powerful shot into the net, restoring the home team’s advantage. The final goal came in the 96th minute when substitute Ben Davies scored from outside the penalty area, sealing the win for Spurs. Both teams ended the match with six points each, though Tottenham remained in 16th place due to a better goal difference compared to Coventry, which sat in 17th position. Manchester City continued to lead the league with 21 points, maintaining their dominance at the top of the table. Maddison’s return to the starting lineup was notable, as he had been absent from matches for nearly 17 months due to injury. He spoke after the game about his desire to contribute to the team and demonstrate the value he brings to the squad. “I just wanted to play well,” he said. “I wanted to show my qualities and what the team has missed in the last 18 months.” Also returning to the matchday squad was Dejan Kulusevski, the Swedish midfielder who had been out for 526 days due to injury. His inclusion marked a significant moment for the team as they looked to rebuild their season after finishing just above relegation last year. Tottenham entered the match at the bottom of the Premier League, having gone through seven rounds without a league win. Manager Roberto De Zerbi had taken the squad to Marbella earlier in the month for warm-weather training in an attempt to improve their performance. The victory against Coventry offered a much-needed boost for the team, providing hope that they could climb the table in the coming weeks. The match saw several key moments, including Maddison’s early goal, Marmoush’s crucial strike, and Davies’ late finish. Each player contributed to the team’s success, helping Tottenham move away from the bottom of the league and into a more competitive position in the Premier League standings.
