Razkrita madžarska vohunska mreža v EU

The European Commission has released a document revealing that Hungarian intelligence officers stationed at Hungary’s permanent representation to the EU in Brussels attempted to recruit EU officials. This occurred during the tenure of longtime autocratic Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who held power from 2010 to 2026, and was recently decisively defeated in elections. The report, based on an investigation by Commissioner Piotr Serafin, indicates that between 2013 and 2016, Hungarian intelligence services sent several operatives to work at the permanent mission. Initially discreet, these activities became more overt after 2015, though they reportedly ceased by 2016. Serafin’s investigation did not find any individual responsibility, and the European Commission was not informed of any serious security violations.
