The incident occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 8:15 pm, when two masked men opened fire on a crowd gathered at the drop-off zone of Fitzys on Bryants Road. The venue was hosting the Logan City Titles boxing event. Shots were discharged from the passenger window of a silver Mitsubishi that had pulled up to the location. Detectives allege that the two males, who wore balaclavas and gloves, sat in the front seats of the vehicle. The car subsequently fled the scene. Twenty minutes after the initial shooting, the silver Mitsubishi was found set alight on Maloney Road in Waterford West. Police declared the site a crime scene. A second vehicle arrived to pick up the occupants of the burning car, and the group departed. Detective Inspector Ian Galpin noted that it is possible one of the individuals from the Mitsubishi was injured or burned during the escape. Later that same night, a utility vehicle was also set alight on Beenleigh Beaudesert Road at Tamborine. The primary victim is a 19-year-old woman from Jimboomba. She underwent surgery for her head and neck injuries and remains in critical condition. Three other men were hospitalized. A 38-year-old man from Browns Plains was shot in the abdomen and arm. A 37-year-old man from Salisbury and a 27-year-old man from Cornubia were both shot in the abdomen. All three men underwent surgery and are currently in stable condition. Eyewitnesses described seeing blood everywhere at the scene as officers rushed to the function center. Police launched a manhunt for the shooters and at least one other individual associated with the vehicles. Chief Superintendent Adams stated that there is no indication the specific victims were targeted, describing the group as a random collection of people standing in front of a popular hotel. However, she declined to confirm whether the shooting was linked to gang activity, stating that police are exploring every line of inquiry and do not discount any possibility. Logan Mayor Jon Raven described the event as sending a shockwave through the region, noting that such an incident had never occurred in Logan before.
