In a recent operation targeting illicit firearms activity, the Plateau State Police Command made significant strides in dismantling an arms trafficking network. On June 22, police forces arrested two individuals suspected of illegally possessing and trading firearms. During the raid, authorities recovered a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle, another rifle, two magazines, and 29 rounds of ammunition. These items were obtained from the suspects, marking a crucial step in curbing the spread of unregulated weapons in the region.

The arrests were conducted by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in conjunction with officers from the Bukuru Division. The first suspect, identified as Yakubu Danladi Pam, was captured at Miyango-Gyel, located behind Building Materials in Jos. According to police reports, Pam claimed he had acquired the firearm for self-defense purposes, citing threats against his life. However, his account led to the identification of another individual, Abdulsalam Mohammed Hassan, who was also implicated in the illegal trade of firearms.

Hassan reportedly served as a middleman, acquiring firearms from unknown suppliers and selling them for profit. Upon his arrest, police discovered additional weapons and ammunition on him, indicating a broader involvement in the arms trade. Both suspects are now held by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where further investigations are being conducted to trace the origins of the firearms and uncover potential links to other members of the trafficking network.

The Plateau State Police Command emphasized the dangers posed by the illegal possession and distribution of firearms. Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, issued a stern warning to the public regarding these activities, highlighting their threat to public safety and security. He reiterated the department's dedication to safeguarding citizens' lives and property, vowing to continue efforts aimed at dismantling criminal operations throughout the state.

In a separate incident, a tragic event unfolded in Ondo State, where a 47-year-old technician named Idris Clement was fatally wounded during an armed robbery. The assault took place in the Shagari area of Akure South Local Government Area, occurring just before dawn. The assailants, believed to be part of a group comprising at least three individuals, targeted multiple homes prior to attacking Clement's residence.

Clement, known for his work as a skilled technician specializing in air conditioning and freezer repairs, attempted to protect his family from the intruders. Unfortunately, he was overwhelmed by the attackers, who used axes and cutlasses before resorting to gunfire. Despite immediate medical attention, Clement succumbed to his injuries due to severe blood loss. His family expressed profound grief, emphasizing the impact of his death on their lives.

The Ondo State Police Command responded swiftly to the tragedy, confirming the arrest of one suspect linked to the robbery and murder. Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, assured the community that the investigation was ongoing and that the police were committed to bringing all those involved to justice. Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu, the department pledged to pursue the remaining members of the robbery gang relentlessly.
