The Chilean police force, specifically the Investigative Police (PDI), has dismantled a drug trafficking network operating in the communes of Maipú and Recoleta, seizing over 5,5 kilograms of cannabis during a coordinated operation. The arrest included one Chilean woman and three Peruvian men, who were detained following a detailed investigation conducted in collaboration with the local prosecutor’s office in Maipú. The seized cannabis, weighing approximately 5,527.84 grams, equates to around 5,528 doses and was valued at roughly $33,168,000. This seizure marks a significant disruption in the illicit drug supply chain within these areas. The operation began with investigative efforts led by the Model Territorial Zero Unit, part of the Maipú Criminal Investigation Brigade (Bicrim), under the supervision of Subprefect Patricio Ruiz. During the probe, officers monitored a residence in Maipú and observed the arrival of a taxi-like vehicle carrying three individuals. Upon conducting an identity check, they discovered cannabis hidden in the spare tire of the vehicle. Further raids at the residence of one of the suspects revealed an additional 5,106.73 grams of cannabis. Alongside the drugs, authorities confiscated $226,000 in cash and a mobile phone. These findings underscore the scale of the operation and its impact on local drug distribution networks. This incident occurred amid broader national efforts to combat drug trafficking through digital platforms. In a separate nationwide operation, the Department Antidrug OS7 of Carabineros arrested 82 individuals for selling narcotics via social media and personal accounts on online platforms. Over 50 procedures were executed across the country, targeting the sale of illegal substances through digital means. Among the detainees were 59 men and 23 women, including five Colombians, five Venezuelans, two Bolivians, and 12 foreigners, eight of whom held legal residency status while four did not. The operation resulted in the seizure of nearly 19 kilograms of cultivated marijuana, along with 1,170 grams of cocaine hydrochloride, 1,688 grams of crack, and numerous other controlled substances such as ecstasy, MDMA, ketamine, and methamphetamine. Additionally, law enforcement recovered 234 ecstasy pills, two grams of MDMA, 33 vials of ketamine, 11 units of methamphetamines, and 286 cartridges containing hybrid cannabis concentrate. During the operation, authorities also confiscated weapons, including two handmade shotguns, two revolvers, and three pistols, alongside ammunition and other firearms components. The recovery of this weaponry highlights the intersection of drug trafficking and organized crime, emphasizing the need for continued enforcement actions. Financial assets seized totaled $12,458,500 in cash, along with 13 vehicles, 51 cell phones, and two portable radios. These seizures reflect the extensive reach of criminal activities and the state's commitment to disrupting them. In addition to these operations, the Fiscalía confirmed the detention of a second Carabinero officer in connection with the death of a man who had evaded inspection.
