Crocker described the opportunity to work on such a project in a high-profile setting as an “amazing experience.” The bridge is expected to contribute significantly to the local economy, with projections indicating it could generate approximately $167 million in revenue for the Mackenzie district over the next decade. The opening of the bridge coincides with seasonal challenges, as the region experiences harsh winter conditions. Aoraki/Mount Cook district operations manager Sally Jones urged visitors to prepare adequately for the elements. She advised checking weather forecasts and dressing appropriately for sub-alpine conditions, including wearing sturdy footwear, warm clothing, hats, and gloves. Jones emphasized the importance of safety, noting that while the views from the track are breathtaking, the environment can be unforgiving. She also pointed out that the best times to hike during winter are typically in the late morning to mid-afternoon when temperatures are slightly milder. The bridge’s construction was a test of resilience, with teams working under extreme weather conditions. Despite these challenges, the project was completed successfully, reflecting the dedication and expertise of all involved. Jones praised the efforts of contractors, partners, and staff, calling their accomplishment a “significant milestone” and expressing pride in their collective achievements.
