México welcomed 67.7 million international travelers between January and August 2026, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism. This represents a 6.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. During these eight months, the country received 32.7 million international tourists, generating $24,152 million in economic revenue. President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted the results as historical records for tourism. According to the figures presented, the arrival of international tourists grew by 3.9 percent annually, while tourism-related income increased by 0.9 percent compared to the same period last year. The minister of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, stated that the numbers represent historic records not achieved in more than 20 years, based on information presented during the morning press conference this Thursday. One of the segments with the highest growth was cruises. Between January and August 2026, Mexico received 8.2 million cruise passengers, a 13.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. The economic impact of this sector reached $716 million, 17.3 percent higher than the previous year. Tourism activity grew in transportation, museums, and archaeological sites. Regarding mobility and visits to tourist sites, the Ministry of Tourism reported that the Maya Train transported 65,037 foreign visitors, a 1.6 percent annual increase. Meanwhile, airports across the country recorded 128.3 million passengers during the period. Museums received over 7.55 million visitors, while archaeological zones accounted for 6.20 million people, according to figures presented by Rodríguez Zamora. In August 2026, the arrival of international travelers totaled eight million, a 1.3 percent increase compared to August 2025. Economic revenue reached $2,409 million, a 7 percent growth, while the average spending of tourists arriving by air was $1,270, 15.2 percent higher than the previous year. Between January and August, archaeological zones accounted for 6.20 million visitors. For the Day of the Dead celebrations, the Ministry of Tourism projected the arrival of 1.69 million tourists to hotel rooms, representing a 1.2 percent increase compared to 2025. It also estimated that economic revenue in the productive chain would grow more than 5 percent. The ministry expects hotel occupancy rates to reach between 70 and 80 percent in major tourist destinations, surpassing previous records. Rodríguez Zamora invited people to consult the Visit México schedule, which announces more than 200 experiences related to the traditions of this season.
