Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to reintroduce its GLA compact SUV with a fully electric version set to debut in early 2027, followed shortly thereafter by a mild hybrid variant. The German automaker’s latest iteration of the GLA will feature updated design elements, enhanced interior space, and improved technology, according to company officials. The base price for the German market is listed at €48,600 for the electric version, though pricing for Italy has yet to be finalized. Italian dealers suggest the local list could offer a favorable surprise for buyers. Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, described the new GLA as “designed to excite customers every day.” He emphasized that the vehicle draws on 140 years of innovation to create the most expressive GLA ever made. The redesigned interior offers increased space and comfort, further enhancing the appeal of the already best-selling compact model in the brand’s lineup. The fully electric version of the GLA will arrive first, likely in early 2027, followed by a mild hybrid variant within a few months. This latter version will include a 48-volt electrical system integrated into an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It will feature a 1.3-kWh battery and power outputs estimated at 156, 184, and 211 horsepower. The mild hybrid will offer both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo engine. Both the electric and mild hybrid versions of the GLA will be available in two- and four-wheel-drive configurations. The electric variants will be offered in three models—200, 250, and 350—with different battery capacities. The 200 model will use a lithium iron phosphate battery with 58 kWh of usable energy, while the 250 and 350 models will employ nickel manganese cobalt batteries with 85 kWh of actual capacity. The larger battery in the 350 model provides a declared range of 657 kilometers, with 270 of those kilometers rechargeable at a charging station in just 10 minutes. This is possible thanks to a maximum charging speed of 320 kW and an 800-volt architecture. The electric GLA features a flat floor in the rear section of the vehicle, offering more legroom compared to the hybrid version, which includes a pronounced central tunnel. The new GLA measures 4.56 meters in length, making it up to 10.2 centimeters longer than the previous model, depending on trim levels. Its wheelbase has been extended by 61 millimeters, reaching nearly 2.8 meters, and the vehicle is 20 millimeters lower than its predecessor. Passengers can appreciate the additional space in both the rear seats and the luggage compartment, which ranges from 410 to 1,400 liters. Visually, the electric GLA boasts a prominent front end featuring an illuminated grille with 608 light elements that can be animated. LED matrix headlights are standard equipment, while the optional Multibeam headlights provide enhanced lighting capabilities. Additional features, such as the passenger display, are available upon request, although the final pricing structure has not yet been disclosed. The new GLA comes equipped with advanced safety and driver-assistance systems controlled via a central touchscreen measuring 14 inches. These systems are paired with a digital dashboard measuring 10.25 inches. An optional 14-inch passenger display is also available, providing passengers with their own entertainment and information interface. The integration of these technologies underscores the GLA's position as a modern, tech-savvy compact SUV designed to meet evolving consumer demands.
