A man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for raping a woman in her caravan following the Royal Windsor Horse Show, authorities confirmed. Ryan Dinnage, 32, of Caithness Walk in Croydon, south London, received an eight-year and six-month custodial sentence at Reading Crown Court on July 30. The attack occurred on May 16, 2022, in the early hours of the morning, shortly after the final day of the equestrian event. The Royal Windsor Horse Show 2022 took place from May 13 to May 15. It was marked by a rare public appearance by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who visited the show grounds. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, then known as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, also attended, with their daughter Lady Louise taking part in a carriage display. On the final day, the show featured a Platinum Jubilee celebration titled A Gallop Through History, which included performances by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise and actress Dame Helen Mirren. The victim, who was employed at the equestrian show, was attacked in her caravan during the event. The incident was reported on May 16, 2022, and Dinnage was arrested the following day. During initial police questioning, he denied any sexual activity with the victim. However, forensic evidence connected him to the crime. He later admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the woman but claimed it was consensual. Detectives obtained digital evidence from Dinnage’s mobile phone, which refuted his claim and established his presence near the victim’s caravan at the time of the offense. Dinnage was charged via postal requisition on March 6, 2025, and subsequently faced trial at Reading Crown Court. On June 8, the jury unanimously found him guilty of one count of rape. He was cleared of two other charges, sexual assault and causing a female to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity. Detective Constable Arshid Ali, the investigating officer, expressed satisfaction with the sentence, stating it reflected the gravity of the offense. Thames Valley Police emphasized its commitment to addressing sexual crimes and ensuring justice for victims. The case has spanned over four years, during which the victim demonstrated remarkable resilience. Ali thanked her for her courage and strength throughout the investigation and legal process, hoping the verdict brings her some measure of closure.
