Spanish police uncovered 400 grams of wax, a highly potent form of cannabis, during a raid on a fake cannabis smoking club in Madrid’s San Blas neighborhood. The operation was conducted jointly by the city's municipal police and national police forces as part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking. Five individuals were arrested, and authorities seized two kilograms of marijuana, one kilogram of hashish, and approximately €2,000 in cash from both the premises and an attached residence. However, the discovery of the wax marked a particularly alarming aspect of the operation due to its extreme potency and potential health risks. The wax, which is typically associated with the United States, is produced by exposing cannabis to butane gas, resulting in a resinous substance with significantly higher concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis. Unlike traditional cannabis, which usually contains between 3% and 6% THC, or even genetically modified strains reaching up to 28%, the wax found in Madrid has been reported to contain over 90% THC. This level of concentration poses severe risks to users, including potentially life-threatening effects on brain neurotransmitters. The investigation into the suspected club began earlier this year after police noticed consistent movement of people entering and exiting the location within brief intervals. Initial checks confirmed that the establishment operated as a cannabis smoking club, but further investigations revealed that there was no official registration for such an association. Additionally, the clientele did not appear to be a stable group of members; instead, individuals would enter briefly before leaving, often without being identified upon entry. Based on these findings, law enforcement concluded that the venue was primarily used for the sale and distribution of narcotics. It served as a supply point for the adjacent residence, where drugs were stored for subsequent distribution. The building was divided into multiple rooms, with one functioning as a reception area containing compartments filled with varying quantities of marijuana and hashish. Another room acted as a dispensary, where the wax was discovered inside a refrigerator. Authorities also confiscated eight containers of hashish, eleven jars of crystallized cannabis buds, 23 pre-made cigarettes, along with candy and cosmetic products. In addition to charges related to public health violations, the five detainees, four men and one woman, are accused of belonging to a criminal organization. Each individual played a specific role in maintaining the business operations, ranging from access control to drug distribution and security measures. Separately, Spanish police have also made another significant arrest in the Canary Islands, targeting members of a notorious drug trafficking network known as “Equipo A.” During a recent operation, officers seized nearly 1,500 kilograms of cocaine from a nursery, alongside a replica of the iconic car featured in the television show Knight Rider, as well as 400 kilograms of hashish. The investigation focused on individuals linked to José El del Buque, a high-profile drug trafficker who recently fell under scrutiny following allegations of cocaine theft among his associates. Among those targeted was Pedro S., a wealthy businessman with extensive ties to the island’s elite. Known for his admiration of American actor David Hasselhoff, Pedro S. possessed a near-exact replica of the Knight Rider vehicle, valued at an estimated astronomical figure. His collection included items from Japanese manga and other unique artifacts, suggesting a lifestyle funded by illicit activities. Police believe these possessions were acquired through years of earnings derived from drug trafficking. Another key figure in the operation was a local police officer from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, nearing retirement, who was caught participating in the last drug transfer orchestrated by the group. Investigators claim he had knowledge of secure trafficking routes, low-surveillance areas, and even awareness of upcoming police operations, providing critical information to the criminal network. The police operation resulted in the detention of three main suspects, including Pedro S. and the former officer, along with four additional individuals, following six authorized searches across different properties and commercial locations in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Ingenio, and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. More than 300 kilograms of hashish were seized during the raids, underscoring the scale of the drug trade operating in the region.
