Interpol announced that 95 suspects have been arrested during an international operation targeting the distribution of child abuse imagery on the internet. The operation, which took place between March and September 2026, involved 17 countries across Latin America and Europe, including Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, and Italy. Law enforcement executed 127 search warrants as part of four separate police operations. According to Interpol, the operation focused on disrupting networks that produce, distribute, and profit from child sexual abuse material. One of the key findings was the identification of a five-year-old child in Colombia who had been placed in safety after its parent was arrested. Authorities allege that the parent produced and sold abuse images of the child online. Interpol officials used its database to link multiple files to the child, some dating back to when the child was just one year old. In Ecuador, investigators discovered more than 4,000 files containing child abuse imagery with a total size of approximately 15 gigabytes while examining a suspect linked to a chat group. In Panama, the administrator of a chat group responsible for spreading such material was arrested. This group reportedly had over 700 users. In Argentina, law enforcement apprehended a suspect who allegedly contacted more than 260 girls from various countries. He faces charges of sexually exploiting minors, having demanded increasingly explicit videos and photos from victims and threatening them if they refused. The operation highlights the growing use of digital platforms by perpetrators to exploit children, coordinate abuse, and generate income through illegal content. Interpol emphasized that behind each file is a child who has been abused and continues to suffer whenever the image is shared again. The arrests included both men and women, with 89 percent of those detained being male. Some of those arrested were parents of the five-year-old child in Colombia, accused of creating and selling abuse material online. The operation was supported by a coordinated effort involving multiple jurisdictions and focused on dismantling networks that use cryptocurrencies and online platforms to groom children and facilitate abuse. Law enforcement agencies in participating countries worked together to execute the search warrants, which were carried out across multiple locations. The operation underscores the increasing sophistication of criminal networks that exploit technology to perpetrate and conceal child abuse. The arrested individuals face charges related to the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography, as well as sexual exploitation of minors. Investigations into these cases continue, with authorities working to identify additional suspects and recover more evidence. The operation marks a significant step in combating the global issue of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
