Međunarodna konferencija o modernizaciji kineske medicine i zdravstvenih proizvoda (ICMCM) okuplja svjetske stručnjake za kinesku medicinu

The 25th International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products (ICMCM) commenced on 13 August 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Organised by the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade and Tourism Office (HKTDC) and ten scientific research institutions, the conference brings together global experts in Chinese medicine. The event runs until 15 August and is funded by the Chinese Medicine Development Fund of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Its primary goal is to strengthen connections between Hong Kong’s Chinese medicine sector and the international market, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a leader in the global field of traditional medicine. This year’s conference aligns with the strategic objectives outlined in the Chinese Medicine Development Blueprint of Hong Kong, which was introduced in 2025. The blueprint aims to establish Hong Kong as a bridgehead for the internationalisation of Chinese medicine and a key hub within China’s broader national strategy for developing traditional medicine. To support these goals, the ICMCM has adopted the theme “Clinical Translation, Regulatory Policies and Global Innovative Pathways of Traditional Medicine.” The conference focuses on two central aspects: attracting external expertise (“bringing in”) and expanding international influence (“going global”). Participants from mainland China and overseas are being introduced to Hong Kong’s regulatory frameworks and resource support systems, while foreign regulatory bodies are invited to present their perspectives on traditional medicine governance. The three-day conference includes five main thematic sessions designed to cover critical areas such as policy development, international regulatory standards, clinical research, successful case studies, and talent training. A keynote session will feature Dr. Vincent Chung Chi-ho, Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development, who will explain the Chinese Medicine Development Blueprint, its development trends, and the government’s support mechanisms for the industry. Additional speakers include Law Kwok-wai, Robert, Chief Pharmacist (Chinese Medicine) at the Chinese Medicine Regulatory Office; Dr. Yeung Kin Wai, Senior Chemist at the Government Chinese Medicines Testing Institute; and Prof. Bian Zhaoxiang, Hospital Chief Executive at the Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK). These experts will discuss recent advancements in regulation, quality control, and clinical applications of Chinese medicine. A panel discussion will involve Arnold Lau, Associate Director-General of Invest Hong Kong; Dr. William Cheung, Deputy Chief Manager (Life and Health Technology) at the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES); Angela Yu, Deputy Head of Health Tech and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the Hong Kong Productivity Council; and Wing Chu, Deputy Director of Research at HKTDC. Together, they will examine how the Hong Kong government is supporting the growth and innovation of the Chinese medicine sector through targeted policies and investment initiatives. Another session will address international regulatory standards and market dynamics. Prof. Zheng Linyun, Executive Vice President of the Shanghai Academy of International Standardization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, will present insights on the evolving landscape of global standards for Chinese medicine and traditional medical practices. His remarks will highlight opportunities for cross-border cooperation and standardisation efforts aimed at enhancing the credibility and accessibility of traditional remedies worldwide. The conference also includes a concurrent Food Expo featuring the “Multi-Facets of Chinese Medicine” exhibition, which showcases innovations in health products derived from traditional Chinese medicinal practices. Attendees can engage with exhibitors, attend workshops, and network with industry leaders to gain a deeper understanding of current research, product development, and regulatory challenges in the field. As the conference progresses, participants will continue to explore topics ranging from clinical translation strategies to the integration of technology in traditional medicine. With over 30 experts from Hong Kong, mainland China, and overseas participating, the ICMCM represents a significant platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the advancement of Chinese medicine on a global scale.
