A rare German World War II fighter plane, a Focke-Wulf Fw 190, has been restored and flown again after decades of dormancy. The restoration project, undertaken by the Sivrihisar Aviation Club Association, spanned approximately 14 months and involved an 11-member team. The aircraft was originally downed in France in 1944 and later recovered by the United States in 2000. Despite initial restoration efforts, the plane remained non-operational until it was acquired by the Turkish aviation club in 2023. The Focke-Wulf Fw 190, introduced in 1941, was a key aircraft in the German Luftwaffe during World War II. Most of these are now preserved in museums and are not airworthy. The successful restoration of this particular example marks a rare achievement in preserving historical military aviation. Their dedication resulted in a fully functional aircraft that can now be operated safely in the skies. Meanwhile, other incidents involving transportation infrastructure occurred in Germany. In Gelsenkirchen, a collision between two trams left several passengers injured. The crash, which happened on Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse near the Veltins-Arena stadium, resulted in 14 minor injuries, seven moderate injuries, and three severe cases requiring immediate medical attention. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m. local time. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, though preliminary reports suggest that one of the trams was engaged in driver training before the collision occurred. Separately, authorities in Cologne discovered an unexploded World War II bomb along the Rhine River as water levels dropped to record lows. The bomb, believed to be of U.S. origin, was located in the Deutz district, close to the city’s main train station and cathedral.
