Gendarmería de Chile has begun filling the 32 available cells at the former prison Punta Peuco, which has been converted into the Center for Penal Compliance (CCP) of Tiltil. The move marks the start of a planned relocation of inmates from other detention facilities, including the CCP Colina 1, under new administrative protocols. The process began on July 20, according to a statement issued by Gendarmería. The facility, previously known as Punta Peuco, underwent renovations in 2025 that expanded its capacity by 32 beds. These newly available spaces will now be occupied by prisoners who have been assessed through technical and institutional criteria. The transfers are part of ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and safety of the national prison system. The relocation includes individuals serving sentences for violations of human rights during the dictatorship, who were housed in the Asistir module of CCP Colina 1. This module was moved to the former Punta Peuco facility earlier this year. The current shift aims to consolidate these detainees within the new structure while adhering to established security and operational standards. In addition to the transfer of high-profile inmates, three general offenders who had already been relocated to Punta Peuco in 2025 are also included in the movement. Their relocation was part of a broader initiative launched by former President Gabriel Boric to convert the site into a standard correctional center.
