From ancient Olympia, lessons in leadership beyond borders Forty-four young professionals and students from 20 countries across Europe, Asia, and North America convened at the International Olympic Academy in ancient Olympia for the sixth edition of the Summer Academy. Organized jointly by ELIAMEP and the Institute of Global Affairs at the American College of Greece, the five-day program aimed to equip participants with tools to navigate an evolving global landscape. The theme, “Leadership Beyond Boundaries: Empowering the Next Generation in an Age of Geopolitical Flux,” underscored the focus on diplomacy, geopolitics, and Euro-Mediterranean affairs. The academy brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, including business, transportation, energy, and journalism. Over the course of five days, they engaged in a mix of lectures, interactive exercises, simulations, and practical training sessions designed to enhance their understanding of complex international dynamics. Topics covered included the roles of major global powers, regional players in the Mediterranean, strategic foresight, youth involvement in policy-making, the climate crisis, and public speaking. Participants were divided into teams and tasked with collaborative problem-solving through a series of negotiation simulations. These exercises required them to work toward consensus on hypothetical scenarios, emphasizing practical skills such as adaptability, communication, and negotiation.
