The city of Pag has launched an intensified campaign to enforce public order, cleanliness, and safety during its tourist season. Municipal enforcement officers began their operations on July 17, 2026, focusing primarily on beaches and historic areas within the city. The initiative aims to maintain the appearance and functionality of public spaces while ensuring compliance with local regulations. One notable incident involved officers removing towels and loungers left behind to reserve spots on the beach, alongside the unexpected discovery of an inflatable boat abandoned in a narrow street within the historic core of the city. According to the city administration, the enhanced monitoring will take place throughout the entire area of Pag in accordance with the Decision on Municipal Order and the Road Safety Act. Particular attention will be given to maintaining the cleanliness of public surfaces, proper waste disposal, usage of public areas according to issued permits, adherence to open-fire bans, and compliance with rules regarding keeping pets. The historic core of the city will receive special focus, with municipal officers checking whether residents, renters, and hospitality providers are leaving items such as tables, chairs, sun loungers, bicycles, clothes dryers, large flower pots, and other objects that hinder passage or detract from the city's appearance. The city emphasized its desire to preserve the traditional character of the old town. Residents are still allowed to place traditional wooden stools and small tables in front of their properties, provided they are removed and stored inside after use. Officers will also monitor the placement of smaller modular kiosks, mobile structures, and restaurant terraces, verifying that these are set up in accordance with issued permits and lease agreements, using only approved public spaces. On the city’s beaches, enforcement officers will ensure proper waste disposal, prohibit dogs from staying outside designated areas, check for unauthorized placement of loungers, sun loungers, and other equipment, and verify that towels and other items are left exclusively for reserving spots without the presence of users. Municipal officers will also oversee traffic management, addressing improper parking and stationary vehicles. Traffic control in pedestrian zones and the historic core will be conducted in collaboration with the local police station. The city highlighted that the primary goal of these increased controls is preventive action aimed at preserving municipal order, protecting the historic core, and safeguarding public spaces. In cases where violations are identified, municipal and traffic officers will take measures in accordance with their legal authority. Residents, business owners, and visitors have been urged to cooperate and act responsibly to contribute to a tidy, safe, and pleasant city environment. The city expressed gratitude for the support and responsible behavior of citizens, entrepreneurs, and guests who collectively help maintain the city's orderliness, security, and comfort.
