Two men have been sent to prison by a judge in Bogotá after being accused of murdering a driver working for a digital transportation platform. Assad Kenay Assad El Hawari Márquez and Snaider José Armas Pérez were presented before a judge of guarantees and ordered to serve time in custody pending trial. They face charges including homicide, aggravated theft, and possession of firearms. After committing the crime, the suspects fled in the stolen vehicle. Minutes later, the car was found overturned, and the two suspects were located inside. They attempted to escape but were captured in flagrant violation of the law. During the police operation, one of the weapons used in the killing was recovered, adding to the evidentiary materials gathered by officials. A sibling of the young man who was killed near Heroes Station in Bogotá disclosed the last message he managed to send to his parents. The message underscored the tragic circumstances surrounding the victim’s final moments. A prosecutor from the Life Unit of the Bogotá Section formally charged the two men with homicide, aggravated theft, and the manufacture, trafficking, carrying, or possession of firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition. All these offenses carry aggravating circumstances. The defendants did not accept the charges brought against them. Nevertheless, given the sufficient evidence suggesting their involvement in the crime, the judge approved the request from the investigative body and imposed preventive detention in a correctional facility.
