Authorities are currently investigating Anukalp Mishra, a 22-year-old accused in the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, following concerns over his apparent accumulation of significant assets despite earning only around Rs 15,000 per month. Mishra's alleged possessions include a farmhouse in his native village, a house valued at approximately Rs 65 lakh in Ayodhya, a motorcycle priced over Rs 1 lakh, and a recently acquired Mahindra Scorpio SUV. These acquisitions have raised suspicions among investigators, who are examining whether the funds used to purchase these items originated from legitimate earnings or were tied to the alleged embezzlement of devotees' contributions.

The probe began after police conducted searches at Mishra's residence in Kaushalpuri and recovered property-related documents. Investigators are now scrutinizing bank records, property papers, and other financial documents to determine the legitimacy of Mishra's wealth. They are particularly interested in understanding how he managed to afford such expensive items given his low monthly income. Additionally, police are looking into reports that Mishra organized a lavish seven-day religious event in his village in April, which attracted notable figures. Neighbors have claimed that the family's financial situation improved significantly over the past few years, but these statements are being treated as potential leads rather than definitive evidence.

Beyond Mishra, authorities are also planning to investigate the assets of other individuals arrested in connection with the case. This includes examining land, homes, and other immovable properties registered in the names of the accused, alongside sale deeds, mutation entries, and recent property transactions. Financial records such as bank accounts, high-value investments, insurance policies, lockers, and other financial instruments are also under review. Income tax returns and other available financial records will be compared to the assets accumulated over time to assess whether there is a discrepancy between declared income and actual holdings.

The investigation is expanding beyond Ayodhya, as several of the accused hail from different districts. This suggests that the scope of the inquiry is broadening, indicating that the authorities believe the issue might involve multiple locations and possibly wider networks. The probe is also focusing on the role of the State Bank of India (SBI), which serves as the banker to the Ram temple. The SBI is responsible for managing the cash offerings at the temple, which are regularly deposited at the Ayodhya branch. However, the trust overseeing the temple has outsourced the counting of cash donations to its own staff, who are paid by the SBI.

One of the key figures under scrutiny is Anil Mishra, a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and a prominent figure within the Sangh in the Awadh region. Mishra was previously in charge of the temple's donation and counting processes and has since resigned from the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, although his resignation has not yet been formally accepted. An SBI official, Addikya Raghu Ram Sagar, resides as a tenant in Mishra's home in Faizabad's Amaniganj locality. Sagar was questioned by the Uttar Pradesh government's Special Investigation Team regarding the allegations of theft. He denied involvement in the counting process and expressed surprise at the accusations against Mishra, describing him as a respected individual prior to the investigation.

Further details reveal that Mishra's house, located near the temple, hosts both Mishra and Sagar, with Sagar living on the first floor. Sagar, who holds a senior position at the SBI, also coordinated with RSS leader Gopal Rao, an administrator at the temple, to obtain VIP passes for bank visitors. These VIP passes grant access to exclusive areas within the temple, suggesting a close relationship between Mishra and the SBI official. The ongoing investigation continues to uncover new layers of complexity, highlighting the intertwined roles of local leaders, financial institutions, and religious entities in the matter.
