Access to Neuwerk is limited and depends on weather conditions and tide schedules. From Cuxhaven, the ferry service operated by Cassen Eils runs daily, while Wattwagen depart from Sahlenburg. Guided nature walks are available from Duhnen, providing another way to explore the island. Due to the unpredictable nature of the North Sea, advance booking is strongly recommended for all travel options. Storm surges can disrupt these services, highlighting the challenges of visiting this isolated place. The transformation of Neuwerk into a tourist hub involves extensive renovation work. Over the course of nearly two years, the lighthouse will be converted into a 21-bed hotel, requiring almost 22 million euros in investment. This project represents a significant financial commitment by the city, which will also bear the associated risks.
