CCTV, detectors greet students at Tacloban school as classes resume

San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Philippines, has implemented enhanced security measures ahead of the resumption of in-person classes following a tragic campus shooting on June 22. The incident resulted in three student deaths and 20 injuries, prompting the school to install additional CCTV cameras, metal detectors, increase police presence, and improve overall campus safety. The Schools Division of Tacloban City emphasized that these measures, alongside ongoing psychosocial support for students and staff, aim to create a safer environment and restore normalcy. Two suspects, aged 14 and 15, are currently in a rehabilitation facility operated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The 15-year-old faces multiple charges including murder and serious physical injuries. Students who are not yet ready to attend in-person classes may choose blended learning.
