The death toll from a brutal Russian attack on Kyiv has risen to 30 after rescuers retrieved three more bodies from the ruins of a residential building in the Darnytsky district. The Ukrainian State Emergency Service confirmed the increase in casualties as cleanup operations continued following the devastating strike, according to Ukrainska Pravda. This incident marks one of the most severe attacks on Kyiv since the conflict began, highlighting the escalating intensity of the war.

The attack took place during the night of July 1st to 2nd, when Russian forces launched a combined assault on Ukraine using attack drones and missiles of various types launched from the air, land, and sea. According to reports, the Ukrainian air defense system intercepted 524 out of 570 aerial targets, but 25 ballistic missiles and 12 attack drones managed to penetrate the defenses and hit their intended targets. Kyiv was the primary target, with confirmed casualties reaching 27 and nearly 90 injured by midday on July 2nd.

In the aftermath of the attack, the ruins of a nine-story apartment building in the Darnytsky district became a symbol of devastation. A direct hit destroyed the central part of the structure, turning 64 apartments into rubble, dust, and twisted metal. Rescue teams managed to save 17 residents, seven of whom were pulled alive from under the debris. Emergency services, doctors, and search dogs worked throughout the night and day searching through the remnants of what had been someone's home just hours earlier.

President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the site of the attack to pay respects to the victims and assess the damage. Officials informed him about the catastrophic consequences of the strike, which affected over 130 locations in Kyiv, damaging 60 residential buildings, a hospital station, a research institute, and a hotel.

In addition to the attack on Kyiv, further strikes occurred across Ukraine. On Friday, the Ukrainian government announced via the Telegram network that two people died and eight others were injured in nighttime Russian attacks. In the eastern region of Sumy, two individuals lost their lives when Russian drones struck a family home. Meanwhile, in the central Ukrainian city of Khmelnytskyi, where President Zelensky was born, seven people were injured when a Russian missile hit a densely populated area.

Kyiv declared a day of mourning on Friday following the attacks that claimed over 30 lives in the capital during Thursday’s assaults. These incidents underscore the ongoing threat posed by Russian military actions and the vulnerability of civilian populations in urban centers. As rescue efforts continue and the full extent of the damage becomes clearer, the international community is likely to respond with increased diplomatic pressure and potential sanctions against Russia. The situation remains tense, with both sides preparing for further escalation in the conflict.
