He dismissed anticipated negative media coverage, stating that he did not care about accusations of profiting while citizens suffered at the pump. Economist Isabella Weber, author of the book Anti-Fascist Economics: In Defense of Affordability, Dignity, and Democracy, offered a contrasting analysis. As the founding director of Essential Economics and an associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Weber described the Iran conflict as an engineered shock initiated by the United States government.
