Ansturm on Zurich Lake apartments, now decided by lottery Thirty-four partially affordable apartments are being built near Zurich Lake at the former SBB site in Rüschlikon. Demand has been high, with 1,400 interested parties registering for the project. The apartments will be available for rent starting in 2027. The project, called “Bahnhof Süd,” includes six buildings with 34 apartments. Eighteen of these will be managed by the municipal foundation Stiftung Wohnungsbau, six by the municipality itself, and ten by Post Immobilien AG. According to the local newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, up to 30 percent of the market rate could be saved on rents for the foundation’s and municipal apartments. The foundation’s president, Simon Egli, explained that while the rent would not automatically be low, applicants could request a reduction if their net rent exceeded 35 percent of their gross income. A four-and-a-half-room apartment would normally cost 4,500 Swiss francs per month. Despite no prior viewings or advertising, 1,400 people registered interest. In the first round, all were contacted, leaving 750 still interested. Of these, 270 met initial criteria such as having lived in Rüschlikon for at least five years, whether currently or previously, or having urgent housing needs due to eviction notices. In the third round, a lottery under notarial supervision selected half of the 270 candidates. Those chosen received rental documents and could attend apartment viewings. Due to continued high demand, another lottery will likely determine final allocations after viewings. The first keys will be handed over by mid-December. The buildings will also include three studio apartments, offices, a shop, and a café. It is already known that one of the shops will be a Coop store, replacing the existing branch on the mountain side.
