The Ministry of Health has proposed a new law aimed at improving access to healthcare services in Slovenia, which is currently open for public comment until November 11. According to data from the Slovenian Health Insurance Institute (ZZZS), approximately 126,000 people lack a chosen family doctor, while over 226,000 women and girls do not have a designated gynecologist. The legislative draft requires the insurance institute to offer patients suitable options for selecting a new physician within 15 days if they remain unassigned. Although the initiative is intended to address significant gaps in medical staffing, some experts question whether these targets are fully achievable in practice.
