(INTERVIEW) Miran Videtič: Zoran Janković is definitely the biggest political fraud in independent Slovenia!

Miran Videtič, a seasoned political commentator known for his sharp, direct, and uncompromising style, has criticized Zoran Janković's government as the biggest political fraud in independent Slovenia. In a recent interview, Videtič assessed the initial moves of the new government following March elections, comparing them with the policies of the previous Golob coalition and highlighting personnel changes in public companies and institutions. He emphasized the need for the new administration to focus on addressing the aftermath of the June flood disaster and pointed out key priorities that should take precedence. The new government has already begun making its first personnel moves within public enterprises and institutions. Videtič questioned whether removing officials from the previous coalition was necessary hygiene or a recipe for renewed polarization. He noted that while some changes were essential, others required careful consideration or even avoidance. For instance, he highlighted the energy sector, which had been under Golob’s influence, leading to personnel decisions driven by private interests rather than public service. Videtič also pointed out that in other sectors, such as the Dars company, there were clear examples of personal gain over public interest. He mentioned a close ally of Golob who had negotiated a director position as a form of retirement benefit. He further noted that the former minister Asta Vrečko had a history of patronage in her portfolio, and similar practices were observed among members of the Left party, including Mesec and Maljevac. However, he acknowledged exceptions and stressed the importance of reviewing all appointments, especially those made during the period of "current business." Videtič argued that Slovenia lacks a deep pool of capable managers and civil servants, emphasizing the need for individuals who have proven their capabilities through work rather than political ideology. He praised the appointment of Mr. Jeretič to the Office of the Government for Communication, noting that this move demonstrated a fresh approach from Prime Minister Janez Janša, unlike the more ideological appointments typical of Golob. Videtič also discussed the broader context of the new government's actions, suggesting that the previous four years under Golob's leadership were marked by transactional politics focused on personal gains rather than national progress.
