Serbian Army expands personnel capacities: Minister Gašić talks with citizens of the Kingdom about employment opportunities in the defence system

In a significant ceremony held at the "Vojvoda Petar Bojović" barracks in Leskovac, members of the voluntary military service generation "June 2026" took their oath of allegiance to the Serbian Army. This event marked a new chapter in Serbia's defense strategy as it continues to build upon its commitment to maintaining national security and military readiness. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić, who delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of love for the country, military honor, and the awareness that serving one’s nation is among the highest privileges. His remarks highlighted the transformation of the Serbian Armed Forces into a modern, well-equipped force capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.

The minister noted that unlike the years between 2000 and 2012, when Serbia faced underinvestment and neglect in its military sector, the current armed forces have grown significantly due to responsible state policy and strong support from President Aleksander Vučić, the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Army. He emphasized that the results of this effort would be showcased during Vidovdan, where the most advanced weaponry and military technology will be presented at the Batajnica airfield and the Pasuljanske livade training ground. These displays aim to demonstrate the army's preparedness and determination to defend Serbia against any potential threats.

During the ceremony, several soldiers shared their motivations for joining the military. One such soldier, Viktorija Veljković, explained that her decision to serve voluntarily stemmed from a deep-seated desire to contribute to her country. She mentioned that she had always been accustomed to hard work, discipline, and order, which made the transition into military life more natural for her. Her family and friends were instrumental in supporting her choice, especially her father, who had previously served his mandatory military service and offered her guidance throughout the process.

Another soldier, Damjan Gojković, spoke about how stories from his friends and family about ancestors' experiences in the military inspired him to join the Serbian Army. He found encouragement from his friends who were already part of the military, who provided him with valuable advice on preparing for his role within the armed forces. Similarly, Kristijan Keunić expressed admiration for the honor and dignity associated with being part of the military, influenced greatly by his relatives who were officers and non-commissioned officers. Their accounts of military life reinforced his belief in the value of serving one's nation.

Beyond the ceremonial aspect, the event also underscored broader efforts to expand the workforce within the defense system. As part of these initiatives, Minister Gašić engaged with citizens in Kraljevo during an "Info Day" organized by the Serbian Army. This initiative aimed to inform the public about employment opportunities within the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army. The minister highlighted that the goal was to bring attention to the reintroduction of compulsory military service while showcasing the diverse range of roles available for individuals with varying qualifications and skills.

He outlined the need for new personnel profiles, particularly those with expertise in information technology, drone operators, and other highly specialized fields. Additionally, he pointed out that the salaries of military personnel exceed the average republican wage, accompanied by numerous benefits such as housing cost supplements, special working condition allowances, and additional rights stemming from military service. The Serbian Army was described as one of the largest employers in the country, with plans to further enhance its capabilities to meet future security demands.

Minister Gašić encouraged interested citizens to apply for positions, noting that candidates must undergo thorough background checks to ensure they are reliable and responsible individuals. He detailed the variety of job profiles required, ranging from skilled trades like auto body repair and metalworking to professionals in specialized industries. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of young researchers, scientists, and specialists willing to contribute to the development of domestic defense industry through the Vojnotechnical Institute.

Moreover, he assured that aspiring drivers could obtain necessary certifications within the framework of the Serbian Army, even if they did not already possess them. Similar principles applied to other professions requiring specific licenses and authorizations. Employment opportunities were available in multiple cities across Serbia, including Belgrade, Kraljevo, Čačak, Valjevo, and Kragujevac, underscoring the necessity of trained personnel to operate and maintain modern equipment effectively.

Local authorities and representatives from the National Employment Service also participated in the event, highlighting the collaborative nature of these efforts. They stressed that the military encompasses not just uniformed personnel but also a wide array of professions essential to its functioning. With the promise of secure jobs and favorable conditions, there is now an opportunity for the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army to bolster their ranks, ensuring continued strength and resilience in safeguarding the nation.
