A new online platform called Zamorje.si has been launched by the consortium 'Povezani za morje' to allow the public to report observations of marine life, plants, and environmental issues along the Slovenian coast. This initiative aims to assist researchers, conservationists, and policymakers in understanding and protecting Slovenia's sea. The platform enables users to submit photos or videos of marine animals such as dolphins, turtles, crabs, seaweed, fish, and birds, as well as other observations like washed-up waste, improperly anchored boats, oil spills, and dead marine animals. Users can input their observations directly through the platform, which makes the data immediately available to scientists and other users. The project is supported by several organizations including the YouSea Institute, Morigenos Society, NOMED, and IZRIIS, as well as the National Institute of Biology, which hosts the platform. The initiative is funded by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Public Administration under a public tender for the development and professionalization of non-governmental organizations and volunteering in 2024.
