YPP boycotts Anambra LG poll over violence, irregularities claims

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has boycotted the Anambra State local government elections due to allegations of violence, electoral irregularities, and gunshots reported in Otuocha, the headquarters of Anambra East Local Government Area. The YPP was the only opposition party to field candidates in this LGA, contesting both chairmanship and councillorship positions across 15 wards. Other opposition parties did not field candidates in any of the 21 LGAs. According to YPP's Local Government Collation Agent, Charles Ifediora, the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the state government allegedly colluded to intimidate the opposition through violence and prevent YPP agents from carrying out their duties. Gunshots were reportedly fired near the LGA Secretariat during the distribution of electoral materials, preventing YPP supporters from participating. An eyewitness confirmed the presence of gunfire but noted no major injuries.
