Wholesale electricity prices fell as Middle East crisis appeared to ease

Wholesale electricity prices in Ireland decreased by 6.2 percent in June compared to May, though they remained 42.2 percent higher than June 2025. This decline follows initial tensions caused by US-Israeli strikes on Iran and the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which disrupted global oil supplies and drove up energy costs. The drop in prices was partly due to falling fuel oil and gas oil prices, but energy costs remain elevated compared to pre-crisis levels. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) reported broader decreases in energy fuel prices, with a 9 percent drop from May to June, though these prices were still 24.5 percent higher than in June 2025. Other sectors, like fish products and chemicals, saw significant annual price increases.

Bias read (Center): The article presents factual economic data without overt ideological slant. While it discusses geopolitical events affecting energy prices, it does not take a clear stance on the political implications of those events. The framing remains neutral, focusing on statistical trends and expert commentary
