WhatsApp rings in the changes with a major upgrade coming to all UK users

The update includes five key enhancements, all of which aim to make communication more seamless, secure, and user-friendly. These changes are part of a broader push by WhatsApp, owned by Meta, to improve the reliability and functionality of its messaging platform. The rollout begins with the introduction of Web Calling, allowing users to make and receive both one-on-one and group voice and video calls directly through WhatsApp Web. This eliminates the need to install the desktop application, offering convenience to users who prefer working on their computers or accessing WhatsApp through browsers. According to WhatsApp, this feature is particularly beneficial for individuals such as students using shared computers, professionals on restricted work devices, or those who simply prefer the simplicity of a web interface. In addition to Web Calling, the update introduces Call Transfer, enabling users to move an ongoing group call between devices without losing connection. This allows for a smooth transition from a smartphone to a laptop or desktop, ensuring continuity in conversations without interruptions. Users can start a call on their phone and later continue it on another device, maintaining the flow of communication. Another notable addition is the Waiting Room feature, giving hosts greater control over group calls. When creating a call link, organizers can activate a “Require approval to join” option, placing participants in a virtual waiting room until the host grants entry. This helps manage unwanted disruptions and ensures that only intended participants join the conversation. To enhance the clarity of calls, WhatsApp is introducing QuickHD, which provides high-definition video quality almost immediately after a call starts. This ensures that conversations remain sharp and clear from the outset, improving the overall experience. Alongside this, Noise Suppression is being rolled out to reduce background noise, making voices easier to hear even in noisy environments such as cafes, streets, or offices. The feature can be toggled on or off during a call, offering flexibility to users based on their specific needs. These updates are currently being distributed globally, with WhatsApp confirming that all five features will soon be available to users worldwide.
