Vita Movrin at the EP to an outstanding result, also impressed by the young competitors

Slovenian mountain cyclist Vita Movrin achieved a notable result at the European Championships in Switzerland's Monte Ceneri, finishing in ninth place among a strong field. The competition saw young athletes impressing with their performances, including Maruša Tereza Šerkezi and Eva Terpin, who secured positions within the top ten. Movrin, known for her success at the national championships in Kočevje, where she won titles in both short races and the Olympic cross-country, arrived at the event after a minor injury that left her feeling unwell. Despite this, she remained optimistic about her performance, hoping to compete fully in the upcoming days. Movrin’s race was technically demanding, lasting around twenty minutes. She expressed satisfaction with her effort but acknowledged some early mistakes that affected her positioning near the finish. She noted that her legs were not at their best, which limited her ability to push forward as desired. Nevertheless, she maintained a competitive position around eighth place throughout much of the race. She looked forward to the final day of competition, expecting to perform well in the Olympic cross-country event. The race results highlighted the strength of the field, with Swiss rider Sina Frei emerging as the expected champion. Frei, a former world champion, narrowly defeated her compatriot Alessandro Keller by four seconds, while Sweden’s Jenny Rissveds took third place. Movrin finished just over a minute behind Frei, marking another solid showing in her career. The men’s race also produced surprises, with British rider Charlie Aldridge claiming victory over Italian Jurij Zanott and host nation representative Daria Lilla. Among the younger competitors, Maruša Tereza Šerkezi, Slovenia’s reigning world champion in the Olympic cross-country category for juniors, performed admirably despite facing challenges during the season. Although she did not compete among the leading contenders, she still managed to secure a strong position, finishing in the top ten. Her efforts were supported by other young athletes, such as Blaž Kavčič, who placed 22nd in the junior category, and Eva Terpin, who impressed with sixth place in her first season competing against older rivals. Eva Terpin, despite being satisfied with her achievement, admitted she was not entirely content with her time. Meanwhile, Maks Majnik made history by securing the best Slovenian result at the European Championships among male juniors, finishing in 19th place. Pina Šiler came in 28th, completing a strong showing for the Slovenian team. The Slovenian delegation continued to deliver impressive performances across multiple categories. In addition to Movrin, Šerkezi, and Terpin, the team demonstrated resilience and skill, contributing to a successful overall campaign. The event underscored the growing talent pool in Slovenian cycling, particularly among younger athletes who showed promise and determination. With the Olympic cross-country event set for Sunday, expectations remain high for Movrin and her fellow competitors.
