The winemakers in Jarenina are opening their cellars today, and you can visit the Alfie Museum for free.

Today, wineries in Jarenina will open their cellars for visitors, with a free tour of the Alfi Nipič Museum also available. The event takes place as part of the local and parish festival, marking the traditional Day of Open Cellars in Jarenina, organized by the local winemakers. This year’s event follows last year's record participation, which saw the celebration held five times already. Three wineries will open their doors today, Saturday, August 8th, welcoming guests between 1 pm and 7 pm. Visitors can enjoy guided tastings at each cellar, with the option of a free museum visit at the Alfi Nipič Museum upon purchase of a tasting glass for 15 euros. Last year, approximately 300 visitors from across Slovenia attended the event, with around 25 different wine varieties available, ranging from aromatic whites and rosés to sparkling wines and reds. Each cellar offered a diverse culinary selection to complement the tasting experience. The three participating wineries, Turistična kmetija Puša na Poličkem vrhu, Gala, Okrepčevalnica, and Vinogradništvo Skupek na Poličkem vrhu, along with Domačija Jarc na Vajgnu, are located within a small area of Jarenina. They produce a wide range of high-quality wines, including typical Styrian whites, refreshing sparklings, and complex reds suitable for pairing with food. Organizers noted that although there are few wineries, each offers a broad selection of wines, allowing visitors to explore a variety of styles. At each cellar, warm dishes or cutlets will be served to enhance the tasting experience. A free shuttle service will operate between the cellars and the museum, making the visit more convenient. While the distances are manageable for a walk, the shuttle ensures easier access for all visitors. The tasting glasses can be purchased at all participating wineries and at the museum’s information point, where the free museum tour is also available. The Alfi Nipič Museum, located in the heart of Jarenina, has attracted over 10,000 visitors since its opening. The museum provides insight into the rich career of one of Slovenia’s most iconic musicians. A large concert, “Mega Žura,” is planned for September 18th, celebrating the museum’s second anniversary. Sandra Kurnik Zupanič, president of the KS Jarenina and member of the Tourist Association Ovtar Jarenina, expressed satisfaction with this year’s visitor numbers. She noted that spring months were particularly busy, with over 1,000 visitors per month. Based on previous years and reservations, she expects similar attendance during September, October, and November. The museum remains open throughout the summer, operating from Thursday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm. It continues to welcome visitors even during holidays, offering a unique cultural experience alongside the wine-tasting event.
