Vilnius and Latvia universities confer first joint master's degree

Vilnius University and the University of Latvia have awarded their first joint master's degree through a new cross-border Baltic studies program. The diploma was granted to Baltic linguistics graduate Dovilė Gavelytė, whose thesis focused on manipulative and causative constructions across Lithuanian, Latvian, Livonian, and Estonian languages. The program combines Vilnius University's master's program in Baltic linguistics with the University of Latvia's program in Latvian language, literature, and culture. Students begin their studies at their home university and then spend their third semester at the partner institution, where they focus on Baltic studies and complete their thesis. Applicants must demonstrate at least B1-level proficiency in both Lithuanian and Latvian.
