KRLee Hyung-il, a veteran South Korean technocrat with extensive experience in macroeconomic policy, has been nominated as deputy prime minister and minister of finance and economy. Born in 1971, Lee studied economics at Seoul National University and earned a doctorate from Texas A&M University. He joined public service in 1993 and held key positions at the Finance Ministry, including director of the Economic Analysis Division and director general of the Economic Policy Bureau.
