High fire risk maintained mainly in Primorye

The article reports that the high fire danger for natural environments has been lifted in several municipalities across Slovenia. The warning, initially issued on July 8th, was revoked in parts of the Nova Gorica and Postojna areas, including the municipalities of Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Cerkno, Idrija, Bloke, Loška Dolina, and Cerknica. However, the alert remains active in other regions such as Koper, Izola, Piran, Ankaran, Ilirska Bistrica, Pivka, Sežana, Divača, Hrpelje-Kozina, Komen, Ajdovščina, Vipava, Nova Gorica, Kanal, Brda, Miren-Kostanjevica, Renče-Vogrsko, and Šempeter-Vrtojba. Authorities continue enhanced monitoring in these areas due to ongoing fire risks. The lifting of the alert follows recent rainfall that ended a prolonged dry and hot period, marking the end of the second heatwave.

The Slovenian Environment Protection and Rescue Agency has lifted the status of major fire danger in several regions following improved weather conditions. The alert, initially issued on July 8, was partially revoked today, with the exception of areas in the Primorska region, which remain under high fire risk. The decision follows recent rainfall that has eased prolonged dry and hot conditions in parts of the country. Fire danger levels were reduced in municipalities around the Kranj, Slovenj Gradec, Maribor, Ptuj, and Murska Sobota areas. These locations had previously been classified as being under extreme fire risk due to consecutive days of heat and low humidity. With increased precipitation over the past few days, authorities determined that the heightened threat had diminished sufficiently to warrant the removal of the emergency warning. However, the situation remains critical in other parts of Slovenia, particularly in the Primorska region, where continued dry spells have maintained elevated fire risks. The agency stated that while intensified monitoring by environmental protection inspectors and police will continue in areas still marked as having major fire danger, certain restrictions remain in place. In these zones, activities such as burning in nature, lighting fires near infrastructure, using flammable materials, and conducting activities that could ignite wildfires are prohibited. Additionally, the use of fire-based devices outside designated urban areas is banned. These measures aim to prevent accidental ignitions during periods of heightened vulnerability. Authorities have noted that the improvement in weather conditions has been largely attributed to recent rainfall, which has helped reduce temperatures and increase moisture levels in the soil. Despite this progress, forecasts indicate that the upcoming days will see partly cloudy skies with occasional showers and thunderstorms, especially in the central and northern parts of the country. Temperatures are expected to range between 28 and 32 degrees Celsius, with some areas on the coast reaching up to 34 degrees. Looking ahead, the weather outlook suggests further changes in the coming days. Friday is predicted to bring mostly sunny conditions, though light rain and thunderstorms may occur in the north later in the day. Saturday will feature more cloud cover, with localized rainfall and thunderstorms likely, accompanied by a southerly wind and cooler temperatures. Sunday is expected to offer partly sunny skies, with possible afternoon showers and thunderstorms. These developments highlight the ongoing challenges posed by seasonal weather patterns and their impact on public safety. As conditions shift, local authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely, adjusting response strategies as necessary to ensure community safety and minimize potential wildfire risks. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay informed and follow all guidelines related to fire prevention and safety protocols.
