A charity event organized by the Lions Club of Slovenia will take place today at the Arboretum Volčji Potok, offering visitors a chance to support athletes with intellectual disabilities through the Special Olympics Slovenia. The event, part of the “Magical Day” initiative, will feature a range of creative, sports, language, and music workshops, along with performances by the Magical Stage. The main goal of the activity is to raise awareness about the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, their inclusion in society, and the role of sports within the framework of the Special Olympics Slovenia. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., inviting participants of all ages to spend the day in the company of goodwill, numerous activities, and above all with the intention of supporting those who can benefit greatly from even small acts of kindness. The funds collected during the event will go directly to the Special Olympics Slovenia Association, which is preparing Slovenian athletes for the International Special Olympics Games 2027, set to take place in Santiago, Chile. These donations will help ensure high-quality training sessions, sports preparation, and the purchase of sports equipment and accessories for the athletes. Mojca Lončarski, the representative of the Slovenian Lions Clubs Federation for the Special Olympics, emphasized that every euro raised during the event contributes directly to the training, competition, and self-esteem of the athletes. She noted that last year, one competitor was gifted a special bicycle, and this year, the organizers aim to take another step forward by providing quality preparations for the journey to Chile. The Special Olympics Slovenia operates under the umbrella of the Society for Inclusion and has been participating in the global Special Olympics since 1990. Slovenian athletes regularly compete in world games, taking part in disciplines such as athletics, football, basketball, table tennis, cycling, swimming, ballroom dancing, judo, and MATP. They have brought home numerous medals and unforgettable stories of perseverance and determination. More than 30 Lions and Leo clubs across Slovenia will participate in the event, showcasing their humanitarian mission, volunteerism, and support for communities throughout the country. The event will not only serve as a gathering for socializing, creativity, and entertainment but also provide attendees with the opportunity to contribute to the success of Slovenian athletes heading to international competitions. It also marks the beginning of the Lions' Year 2026/2027, whose guiding message is “Enriching Lives.” The Magical Day at the Arboretum Volčji Potok will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and organizers are calling on visitors of all generations to make the most of the day, spending time in the spirit of goodwill, engaging in many activities, and above all thinking of those for whom even a small act of assistance can mean a great deal.
