A British woman has discovered an unexpected guest in her bathroom, two baby pigeons nestled in her handbag. The incident occurred when 30-year-old Mimmy Stranger returned home after visiting her mother in Bedford. Upon entering her apartment, she found a pigeon sitting calmly on the counter, with two eggs hidden among her beauty products. The sight was surprising, yet seemingly harmless. The presence of the birds extended beyond the bathroom. Other parts of the apartment showed signs of their visit. Leaves and twigs lay scattered across the floors, evidence of the bird’s efforts to build a nest. Mimmy admitted to forgetting to close the window, which likely allowed the pigeon to enter. “I have to admit, this is the first time something like this has happened,” she said, taking responsibility for the situation. Despite the unusual circumstances, Mimmy does not seem upset. She has decided to provide the birds with a safe space until they are ready to move on. She has named the mother pigeon Pidgey, while the young chicks have been given the names Cluck and Norris. A male pigeon, referred to as Keith, is also expected to join them soon. Mimmy appears deeply engaged in this new role, expressing her desire to give the birds a chance. She described the relationship between herself and the pigeon as peaceful. “The pigeon didn’t even flinch when I entered. It’s completely focused on being a mother. We’ve reached a quiet understanding.” Mimmy’s tone suggests a sense of comfort rather than concern, highlighting her affection for animals. Still, the situation presents challenges. The local pigeon population typically lays two white eggs, and the incubation period lasts around 17 to 19 days. Both parents usually take turns caring for the eggs, and once the chicks hatch, they are jointly raised. The entire process can take approximately a month before the young birds are ready to leave the nest. Mimmy has no intention of moving the nest to her own aviary. British law protects nests of wild birds and their eggs during the breeding season, ensuring they remain undisturbed. Eventually, the pigeon family will need to relocate. Mimmy plans to inform the local wildlife protection society once the chicks are ready to leave. They will then arrange for the birds to be safely relocated to a more suitable habitat. Until then, the pigeons will continue to stay in the apartment, enjoying their temporary home. For now, Mimmy seems content with the unexpected turn of events.
