The popular corn maze is returning to Maribor, but are you brave enough to find your way out without a map?

In the heart of Maribor, the popular corn maze returns with a new theme this year, inviting visitors to test their courage and problem-solving skills. The maze, which has become a beloved attraction during the summer months, features a unique storyline centered around a Polish horror character named Zvonko and his friend Marjeta, who explore the maze while learning about life on a farm. This year’s design aims to reconnect visitors with local traditions and agricultural practices, offering a hands-on experience that blends education with entertainment. The corn maze, known for its intricate layout and thematic elements, will once again provide interactive stations where visitors can engage in puzzles, games, and activities designed to teach them about farming and nature. According to Nataša Drozg, one of the organizers, the maze is intended to bring city children closer to rural life and the process of food production. “We are returning to our roots,” she explained, noting that the maze was originally created to educate urban children about agriculture. “Visitors will learn about how crops grow, what is produced on farms, and how life unfolds in the countryside.” This year’s maze includes several familiar attractions, such as the Polish bed, which was among the most visited spots in previous seasons. However, some areas have been redesigned to offer fresh experiences. For instance, the maze now features a simple section tailored for younger visitors, allowing parents to accompany their children through the initial part of the course. Last year, the maze included a station called "Mouse's Path," while this year, it introduces "Zlatko the Curious Chick," a new activity aimed at those who find the maze too challenging. For more adventurous visitors, the maze presents a special challenge. A large portion of the maze has been marked on a map, enabling participants to navigate independently without assistance. This change reflects the growing confidence of visitors, many of whom return each year to test their skills. “Many visitors come back every year, so we’ve made the maze slightly more complex,” said Drozg. “It’s a challenge for those who enjoy exploring and solving problems.” Due to weather conditions, the maze will open later than usual this year. Organizers noted that they had to wait longer for the corn to reach the desired height before beginning construction. While the exact opening date has not yet been announced, it is expected to take place a few weeks after the start of July, following the completion of all preparations. The corn maze continues to draw crowds, with families and individuals alike eager to participate in the annual tradition. With its blend of fun, education, and cultural significance, the maze remains a highlight of the summer season in Maribor, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the land and its history.
