This document is one of eleven copies printed in July 1776 in Exeter, now part of the U.S. state of New Hampshire. It is believed to be the only known copy outside the United States. The document came into British possession in December 1776 after the Royal Navy captured the American ship 'Dalton' off the coast of Portugal.
