Born in Nigeria, Okezie relocated to the United States at the age of two and grew up in Detroit, where his father and older brother, both physicians, inspired his early interest in medicine. His educational journey included earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yale University and later obtaining a dual Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. His academic pursuits were centered around finance and entrepreneurship, which have played a crucial role in shaping his professional trajectory. Prior to establishing Somatus, Okezie held key positions at prominent organizations such as DaVita Inc., where he managed a $1 billion business unit overseeing operations involving over 4,000 employees and 600 contracted nephrologists. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company and as a Managing Director at the Advisory Board Company, gaining valuable experience in strategic consulting and healthcare management. Co-founded with Anthony Welters, Somatus operates as a value-based care company that collaborates with various medical professionals and institutions to deliver integrated care for individuals with or at risk of developing kidney disease and congestive heart failure.
