Hungary: Radio and TV stations close to Orban shut down

Hungary's state television and radio stations, which were previously close to former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, have suspended their operations according to Prime Minister Péter Magyár. Magyár described this as 'a historic day' marking the end of propaganda broadcasts on publicly-owned media platforms. The main state broadcaster, M1, displayed a black screen with an apology stating, 'Public broadcasting media must not lie. We are sorry we did so for so long.' State media will now undergo reforms to ensure independence and credibility, with the news program temporarily suspended. Both websites and the radio station Kossuth showed a black screen, while the state media group MTVA stated that M1 would resume broadcasting without news programs later in the evening.
