The King of Oyo, who had been on the throne for only three years, died

The traditional kingdom of Tooro in Uganda has lost its monarch, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died at the age of 34. He became king at just three years old in 1995 after his father's death, and was recognized as the youngest reigning monarch in the world. His death was confirmed by the head of the kingdom's government, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, though the cause remains undisclosed. Oyo, who ruled for nearly 31 years, focused on social issues such as youth empowerment, education, and public health. He was honored by UNAIDS in 2016 for his work against HIV/AIDS among young people in East and Southern Africa. Before his death, he was reported to be seriously ill and receiving treatment abroad. The leadership of Tooro has called for calm and unity, stating that the succession is secured.
