Ukrainian Soldier Loses Everything: His Whole Family Killed in a Russian Attack

Reševalci so izpod ruševin rešili le družinskega psa. Napad je del širše ruske zračne ofenzive, pri čemer so ruske sile izstrelile 74 raket in 284 brezpilotnih letalnikov. Ukrajinske oblasti so zaznavale sledi uporabe severnokorejskega orožja. Zelenski je pozval mednarodno skupnost k pomoči v obliki dodatnih sistemov Patriot.

On August 5, 2026, Ukrainian soldier Danilo Voronov stood before the ruins of his family’s home in the village of Radušne, near Krivi Rog, and spoke with quiet devastation. The house, once filled with laughter and life, had been completely destroyed by a missile strike launched by Russian forces on July 30. Among those killed were his parents, Artem and Olena Voronov, their three children, and their 18-month-old grandson. Only one survivor emerged from the wreckage, a family dog, which rescuers pulled from the rubble alive. The attack, part of a broader Russian air offensive, saw Russian forces fire 74 rockets and 284 drone strikes over Ukraine during the week of July 25–31. Ukrainian radars detected flight paths consistent with North Korean ballistic missiles of the KN-23 or KN-24 type. This marks the first confirmed use of such weaponry by Russia since early 2023, according to Ukrainian authorities. President Volodimir Zelenski announced that initial evidence points to the deployment of these weapons, though further analysis is ongoing. Olena Voronov, the mother of the deceased, had returned just days earlier from a visit to her older daughter in Germany. She was among the ten people inside the house at the time of the strike. Her husband, Artem, and their three children, two boys and a girl, were all killed. Their young grandson, who had yet to celebrate his second birthday, perished alongside them. The family’s dog survived, but its fate remains uncertain as rescue teams continue to sift through debris. Danilo Voronov, the eldest son, had not been at home during the attack. He had been visiting relatives and was scheduled to return later that week. Upon arriving at the site, he described himself as “without everything”, his parents, siblings, and even his own child. His younger brother, still a teenager, had been staying with their grandparents and would have joined him soon. The loss has left Danilo emotionally shattered, unable to speak directly about the tragedy. Neighbors describe the Voronov family as hardworking and deeply connected. Ljudmila, a local resident, told journalists that the family’s yard was always lively with children’s laughter and the scent of freshly baked bread. The children regularly helped care for the animals, and one of the daughters loved baking. Plans for future gatherings, including fishing trips with his father and chess games with his grandfather, remain unfulfilled. In response to the attack, the local community declared August 31 as a day of mourning. Residents gathered at the site of the ruined house, forming an impromptu memorial. They brought flowers, drawings, and toys, laying them beside the remnants of the home. The emotional toll on the community is evident, with many expressing grief and anger over the senseless violence. Zelenski called upon the international community for additional support, specifically requesting more Patriot missile defense systems. These systems are considered vital for countering the increasing threat of ballistic missiles. The incident underscores the evolving nature of the conflict, with new weapon types being deployed by both sides. It also highlights the human cost of war, particularly in rural areas that have become targets in the broader military campaign. As the investigation into the attack continues, the Voronov family’s story serves as a stark reminder of the personal tragedies behind the geopolitical tensions. The loss of an entire family in a single strike reflects the brutal reality of modern warfare, where civilians bear the brunt of escalating hostilities. For Danilo Voronov, the destruction of his home and the death of his family will likely define the rest of his life.
