Ukrainians are canceling their Netflix subscriptions because of the series Masha and the Bear.

The Czech newspaper Deník N reports that Ukrainian institutions and politicians are warning against the popular Russian animated series 'Masha and the Bear,' citing concerns that it promotes egocentrism and lack of punishment among children. The show, which has over 60 million views on YouTube and billions globally, is available on Netflix, which recently announced it would be accessible in more than 100 countries. However, many Ukrainians are calling for a boycott due to fears that the series creates a positive image of Russia. Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has also warned that the show represents 'soft power' used by the Kremlin to normalize Russian aggression and imperial ambitions through children's entertainment.
