Ukraine: North Korea builds missile unit in western Russia

The Ukrainian military intelligence has reported concerns over Russia potentially receiving additional military support from North Korea. According to Andrij Tschernjak from the Ukrainian Security Service, Russia is expected to receive a North Korean rocket unit equipped with 120 ballistic missiles intended for use against Ukraine. This unit would consist of approximately 90 North Korean soldiers stationed in the western Russian region of Voronezh, marking an expansion of the existing military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang. A major weakness in Ukraine’s defense against Russia is the lack of modern air defense systems, which Russia aims to exploit through increased use of difficult-to-intercept ballistic missiles. Military expert Rob Lee from the Foreign Policy Research Institute highlighted the significant threat posed by North Korean weapons to Kyiv, particularly concerning the state of air defenses during the upcoming winter if Russia were to attack the power grid again.
